How to mix

Ingredients

  • 1 handful Ice, for stirring or shaking
  • 1 glass Chilled cocktail glass

Method

  1. 1. Chill a cocktail glass.
  2. 2. Choose one martini option.
  3. 3. Add the selected option's liquid ingredients to a mixing glass or shaker with ice.
  4. 4. Stir spirit-forward options until very cold, or shake if preferred.
  5. 5. Shake espresso, lemon drop, and French martinis hard with ice until very cold.
  6. 6. Strain into the chilled glass and garnish as listed.

Martini options

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Gin or vodka, gin for a classic martini or Gibson; vodka for a vodka martini
  • 15 ml Dry vermouth
  • 5 ml Olive brine or onion brine, optional; add to taste for a dirty martini or dirty Gibson
  • 1 piece Lemon twist, olive, or pickled cocktail onion, lemon or olive for a martini; cocktail onion for a Gibson

Method

  1. 1. Mix using the spirit-forward method, then garnish with a lemon twist, olive, or pickled cocktail onion.

Notes & source

Choose one martini option per drink. The options are alternatives, not sequential steps. Gin, vodka, Gibson, dirty, and Vesper martinis are usually stirred for a smoother, clearer drink, but can be shaken if preferred. Espresso, lemon drop, and French martinis should be shaken because they contain coffee, citrus, syrup, or juice.
